Spiritual Minute: Daily Devotional

Yesterday my daughter, granddaughter and I were at Pigeon Forge celebrating my granddaughters birthday. In the hotels, they have a mammoth amount of brochures, flyers and discount coupons for activities in the area. One of the things we decided to do was go on a helicopter ride. While all were competitive in pricing, we called (3) to narrow down our choices. We vacillated back and forth on which one as they were all close in proximity, but while traveling to the one we selected, we saw another sight seeing helicopter and decided to stop at that one.

Initially we thought that was the one we selected, but the GPS kept saying turn around make a u turn at your earliest convenience. Despite the fact it was not our original choice, we decided to stay where we were. Unfortunately, a few hours later, a tourist helicopter plane of the same kind went down just a couple of miles from us, and five people lost their lives.

All through the night the scripture found in Lamentation 3:22-23 continued to repeat itself in my head where it reads- "It is of the Lord's mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassion's fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness".

Every moment we are given the gift of life, we must remember that it is precious, because tomorrow is never promised. Despite our own inconsistencies, God continues to extend us grace. You know what grace is? Grace is the unmerited favor from God. We cannot earn God’s grace and we do not deserve what He does for us, however, God’s love for us manifests itself by grace towards us.

God has a great plan for us, and He is committed to making that plan become a reality. In order for him to do that, we must do our part. We must keep ourselves yielded to Him, and He will continue to direct our paths. The events of yesterday reminded me that God still has work that myself, my daughter and granddaughter have not yet completed. The bible says- “In his heart a man plans his course, but the LORD determines his steps.” (Proverbs 16:9)
